Realizing When to Adjust Your Mindset

I have a separate project that typically captures the majority of my disposable time in the fall months. It’s a hobby I really enjoy and am passionate about, but sometimes I’ll catch myself falling into a dangerous pattern of thinking regarding it’s future success or lack there of. The project is a separate blog on the University of Michigan college football team. I grew up going to games with my father and watching them on TV, so naturally I became passionate about it as I also played football while in high school.

Anytime you have a vehicle or tool to express and market your ideas and thoughts – you have an opportunity on your hands. At the same token, that opportunity is measured against those that already exist. In my blogging market of college football, there is a level of saturation, which in this case is synonymous with success. There are a lot of sites that are just like mine and much more established.

You can begin to see what I mean by the last sentence I just wrote.

“There are a lot of sites that are just like mine and much more established.”

That is the key statement. This happens more often than we think, as it’s the fork in the road where mental decisions are made that ultimately affect your ensuing actions. So here are the two paths, or options, I have to take (keep in mind, it’s all a mindset):

Rollover. I can, rather easily, convince myself that I don’t have what it takes, or the resources, or the whatevers to become every bit as successful as the successfuls.

Takeover. On the other hand, I can, not easily, convince myself that I have all the skills, the resourcefulness, and all the intangibles to become every bit as successful as the successfuls.

You may disagree with me and suggest that you don’t have to actually “convince” yourself and that it’s more of a gut feel for you. I can understand that. I believe that all decisions are processed differently because our life experiences are unique.

So I’ve determined that the only option for me as I move forward, is to Takeover. Instead of thinking that I cannot sway or lure the readers of the established blogs out there away from what they are used to over to mine – I’m dropping the success of the other sites out of my primary view – and focusing on capturing the newcomers to my market. The Takeover. has begun.

Hello! I really enjoyed this posting. I think that many of us develop the same concerns and mindsets in many things that we do. I know myself, of late I struggle with it nearly daily on many levels.

Thanks for making me realize, that I still have power to change my thinking!

    All the best!

  2. Well said, Michael! And I look forward to you taking over! It need not be a thousand more readers than the long-running, established others; it just have to be a venue where your passion is shared with readers who share it. To be able to express and help or touch lives, share and learn, find fulfillment and be continually filled with hope for what’s ahead… So like your commitment to TAKEOVER!

So, world… here’s Michael telling you, “Bring it on!” And I am behind you with flashy pompoms, cheering you on in pure admiration and support. Go, Michael!
