Intro: This was initially one post listing out 20 great methods or things you can use to find inspiration in your life. I have decided to expand upon each one (in no particular order!) because so often we read “how-to’s” and different things we should do in list forms – and typically no action is ever taken. I wanted to talk in more detail about how I interpret and get inspired by each one.

Running Inspiration

#13 – Work It Out! Get Some Exercise.

“If it weren’t for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn’t get any exercise at all.” ~Joey Adams

Challenging yourself physically can be very inspiring and give you great energy. If you haven’t ever, or don’t exercise on a regular basis – you may not realize that the benefits go far beyond the obvious – keeping a desirable figure and maintaining an ideal weight. I can’t say that I’ve always been in the greatest shape, but I work out regularly and am about to run my second half-marathon in a couple months. If you work out, you know how great it feels to know that you just gave a great effort and have dripping sweat and sore muscles to show for it.

Something I’ve observed when I workout regularly, is that it usually carries over into the food that I am eating. When I am in a routine of working out – I eat well. When I neglect working out – I’ll hit the convenient food, candy, pop, you name it. So if you don’t work out and struggle with your diet – you may be surprised to find that once you do start working out, it will be almost natural for you to eat healthy.

Without getting into any research detail – getting your heart rate up, clearing your mind, and ridding your body of toxins are a few more benefits to busting out a good sweat. Not all people are runners, but if you aren’t sure or simply haven’t given running a legitimate try – I recommend that you give it a shot for a few weeks. Start with a distance you can manage – even if it’s just a quarter-mile. Running never used to be my thing, but I was bothered that I was cardiovascularly way out of shape. So I ran a half-marathon and haven’t really turned back. A casual jog gets me a good sweat going and gives me time to be alone with my thoughts. I can think through challenges or let my mind escape with some of my favorite music. It’s turned into therapeutic event for me and I usually look forward to getting into the rhythm of a run.

Physical exertion – a great forum for inspiration and personal growth!
