When to Resurrect a Stale Project

Lately, I’ve been working on getting more organized and structured in a way that allows me to develop legitimate consistency with some of my side projects. As work and other aspects of life have the ability to takeover our emotional and physical energy – it’s easy to lose focus and momentum on our side projects or our passions outside of what is paying the bills. A question keeps popping in to my head…
“Why do I keep coming back to this project and continue to put time and energy into it? What does it mean if I keep coming back to something over and over?”
First, I am 27 years old, and I have a lot of other interests outside of my nine to five. So many that it’s hard to keep track of them all, which typically means that some get neglected or I make some type of justification that makes me internalize and okay a decision to put a project on the backburner.
Many of us are like this. There are a couple of things you can take away from that scenario (if you at all like me!). First, congratulations, because you are an ambitious person and have lots of interests – both great to have. Second, maybe there are some changes that you need to make to ensure that your projects, your true passions, don’t go stale and sit idle while you are busy working on things that aren’t exactly aligned with your true passions.
Most importantly, I’ve realized that I keep coming back to certain projects because a direct correlation exists between my desire for their success and to my long term goals and dreams. I’ll be writing more about the intent of my two core projects in the near future – you can bet that this website is most definitely one of them! Staying focused on your long term goals and dreams isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Our goals and dreams are unique, getting closer to them every day, bit by bit, is something that we have to initiate on our own. We don’t necessarily have to make it all happen on our own – certainly not, but the will, the energy, the passion – all of that has to come from within you.
What’s Next? In tomorrow’s post I’m going to write about what long term goals mean to me. I’ve never been great at maintaining progress on my goals, let alone even setting the right goals, so I’ll share some tools I’ve been using to help out.
