7 Ways to Simplify Your Life
It often seems like so many of us are on this quest to find the right balance in life between family, friends, your career, hobbies, dreams, fears and the list goes on – what tends to happen is that there is no balance and your life becomes very complicated. In reality, perhaps a few changes can effectively simplify your life and steer it in a much clearer direction. Here are some steps to take to make life a little easier on you – simple is good!
1. Don’t waste your time on trivial money matters
In other words, don’t spend an two hours on the phone with billing support because you were overcharged for something by a couple bucks. Your time is valuable, time is very precious – so value it. My father always told me to understand the value of time – as it can be very unforgiving!
2. NO! Sometimes you simply must say no to certain things
You don’t always have to say yes or force something to fit into your day. Rushing around because you over-promise or try to fit too much into one day can make for some frustrating and trying times. Proper planning techniques and daily adjustments can allow you to have adequate time for the things in life that make you happy and healthy.
3. Lose some junk
Have a garage sale. Load up the van and take stuff to Goodwill. It amazes me when I go into people’s homes and they have junk everywhere collecting dust for years. GET RID OF IT! You’ll be happy leaving many things behind. When you don’t have tons of stuff – it really does make life easier. Your place is cleaner, leaner, and afterall – if you move it will be much easier!
4. Manage your time
I have learned that I am not great at multi-tasking. Many people are actually much more efficient putting forth their effort and focus on one task at a time – finishing them one by one. So, take note of how you are spending your time and figure out ways you can be more efficient. The best way to do this is through trial and error. Everybody has a different style in how they approach getting things done. Many people forget to plan – and it often backfires on them as they wind up wasting a lot of time on things that could have been avoided if they had spent 5 minutes assembling a plan for the day.
5. Communicate
In many ways understanding the importance of properly communicating can simplify your life. If you are forced to work long hours and don’t always have as much time for your significant other as he or she would like – do something small every day. It might be waking up 10 minutes earlier every morning to talk – only 10 minutes! It sounds hard to do for many, but it’s worth it. Avoid problems at work by simply communicating with your boss. Don’t go months unhappy because of a certain circumstance – do your part to communicate and address your situation and you’ll feel much better about tackling other things in your life.
6. Take one day a month to take care of that annoying stuff
Stuff that never gets crossed off on your list of things to do. Whether it’s a day you take off from work or a day on the weekend. Knowing that you have this day to take care of stuff, automatically eases your mind and allows you to focus on the things that you need to.
7. Use good judgment & Do the right thing
You know, the typical things you might have heard from your parents or tell your kids. Using good judgment and doing the right things go a long way in keeping your life simple – you avoid many life problems and hassles by understanding the consequences of the decisions you make.
I’d like to hear what methods you use to simplify your own life! This list by no means is comprehensive – they are merely observations from my own experiences through life.

What up!
Thanks! This is very helpful =)
I would add: Focus on what is important, loose the small stuff. And do not worry about things that are out or your control.
Patrick – Thank you for the comment. I agree completely. It’s very easy to get caught up and lost in something that is very much out of your reach and control. That is a great mentality to have – simply put a fence around what you can control and don’t let anything inside that you can’t. Thanks again….

Thank you Mike. I really like how simply you write!
To simplify my life I do 2 things every day that I have been putting off. This was a task set by Tony Robbins in one of his audio courses and it has stayed with me ever since I heard it! Whether it’s putting out the rubbish or calling that client you have been putting off, I make sure those 2 things (big or small) are done each day.
It is such a relief afterwards, and makes me feel like I have accomplished something which makes me want to do it again the next day!
