The Key to Your World

keeping life simple

We all have moments and times in life where we hear or read something that finds a special place in our minds because it stands out. Just like the little memories you might have a grandparent or parent that they wouldn’t remember in a million years, but for whatever reason that moment in time has been branded to your memory.

The other day I was up to no good, just cruising around online when I probably should have been being productive, but it lead me to a quote that is simply fantastic.

“If we can’t control our mind, we can’t control our mouth. And thus, we can’t control our world.”
-Dr. Siddiki

Life Begs for Simplicity

The more I reflect on life and think about things as I get older – I keep coming back to a set of words and ideas that all drive me to one concept. Simplicity.

It’s like not understanding some type of math or comprehensive question and having no clue of how to solve the problem or what to do next. Then, somebody comes along that can spell it out perfectly for you.

As I read this quote, I thought of how relevant it is in my life. It’s a great, simple breakdown of how you can attain the key to your world, and ultimately the key to your potential.

Simplicity Through Reflection

I’m certainly not a control freak, or a neat freak, or the type of person that has to have everything just as it should be. But ask yourself a couple questions.

Do you spend time to specifically think constructively?

Do you spend time reflecting on where you are now, and what lies ahead?

I’ve recently been told by someone who I view as somewhat of a mentor – to ask myself a series of undefined questions on a weekly basis.  This is an exercise that filters out all the garbage and unnecessary feelings, actions, information, etc. that is not in the realm of what you want in your life to accomplish this or be where you want to be.

The key to your world is in your mind.  It’s your collection of thoughts with purpose and intent.  I don’t think most people feel or even believe that they can control their worlds.  And if you ask them, you will most likely hear a lot of words that sound just like can’t, don’t, won’t, well because, and it goes on and on.

Be different.  Control your mind.  Ask yourself questions.

Talk to Yourself

Not long ago I took a short road trip to visit some family.  I had about a two-hour car ride.  Typically, when I’m taking a road trip alone I enjoy listening to music or, occasionally I’ll listen to an audio book or talk radio.  But this trip was a little different.  I wasn’t in the mood to listen to music.  I didn’t feel like the radio.  So I sat in silence for a bit, which I also enjoy doing.

Then I used my audio recorder on my phone and just started vocalizing all the thoughts running through my head.  I was amazed at how long I did this for.  For nearly 90 minutes, I talked through several things that I’ve been thinking about and that I’ve wanted to address.  Whether it be in my personal relationships with friends or family, or one of the handful of projects like this blog that I have decided to make a part of my life.

It was incredibly useful and something I’ve done several times now.  You’d be amazed by what you can figure out if you just lay it all out there on your time.

“The key to your own world is your mind.”

    Agreed!
It blows me away how many people sit and wait for a result to happen or a goal to be reached. Like you said, you control your own thoughts and actions. Gear the actions towards something productive, and one would be surprised at their own results.

    Nice article
