Synonymous With Success: Action & Neglect

Simple Concept – Difficult to Carry Out Consistently
The life you want to live. What is it? Are you living it? It’s not often you meet someone that is living every moment exactly the way they want to. I am not there yet, but I have an understanding of the simple, obvious, yet elusive for most, vehicle that can get you there. The “it” that can get you from zero to where ever it is you want to go. It’s doing, taking action, and ensuring that you don’t neglect the plan or the dream.
I’ve found that it’s quite a simple concept that just about anyone can grasp. You and I know, you’re not going to get anywhere if you just sit around all day. So, pulling from the old experience bank, let’s say you set your sights on doing something like losing weight. A challenge that I think many can relate to – and the day you decide how much weight you are going to lose your motivation is through the roof. There isn’t a thing that is going to keep you from sticking to your diet and exercise plan – and you feel great about your fever of ambition and intention.
Next thing you know, it’s only week 2 and you’ve already missed a couple days and you have lost most of that initial motivation and ambition you had on day one. Why does this happen? I promise, this happens to just about everybody. However, despite it’s frequent occurrence, it’s no doubt a source of heartache and frustration.
Neglect Will Always Eliminate Action
I believe there is a general progression that takes place when we set out to do something and it doesn’t go according to plan, or it doesn’t happen at all. It goes a little something like this:
- Big motivation leads to planning and a vision of what’s wanted
- The initial days or stages go according to plan – as you’re plan and motivations are fresh in your mind
- A general fade takes place – and you allow yourself to get derailed
- You quit.
Now I know that’s a bit crude – and I’m not saying that everyone quits. BUT, I know you’ve been through this process before with something in your life. Motivation is not something that we walk around with 100% of the time, 24/7. So we need a way, or a mechanism to keep us on track and get back on track if we lose focus.
Think about the word neglect. In the weight loss scenario, when you get away from your plan, your initial intention, you choose to neglect your plan and your next natural step is to eliminate taking action. Half of the battle is touching base with your plan everyday – and depending on your life and personality, it may not be very difficult to review a plan everyday.
And that’s it folks. Take action and do not neglect. I know that if you are reading this and you are on F.I.T., you have a fire burning within you to do something more. A great way to start is to begin with a plan, stick to it and make it happen.
Taking consistent action, reaching your goals, and living the life you want to live means that you don’t neglect reviewing, adjusting, and improving your plan.
