Yesterday I was chatting with a person who is quickly becoming a great friend. Our approach to life has many commonalities – and he was kind enough to share this quote with me. It’s a great one.

“A person with an experience is never at the mercy of a person with an opinion.” -Anonymous

Initial Thoughts

I immediately loved this quote and it really reigns true. Think about it – have you ever had to convince a person of something because you did it, you’ve been there before, you know. You know , and have a greater and more grounded base of knowledge because you’ve been through the experience – and your counterpart hasn’t. I’d imagine you have been on both sides of that bridge. Opinion vs. experience – and experience wins every time.

Digging Deeper

This goes back to another quote I wrote about recently, which highlighted the benefits and advantages of taking action and how that leads to gaining great understanding of whatever it is that your doing. Taking action, taking a lead, doing – typically equates to a degree of understanding that can only be gained through that action. You cannot get the same gain through any alternative, whether it’s reading, listening, etc. Therefore, consistent action over time will give you leverage in so many situations through life. Experiences in life are like drops of water in a bucket of knowledge and know-how – the more you can fill it up, the more you will have in most stages and phases of your life.

What to Walk Away With

You are reading this because you want more out of life than the norm, you want better than average. As do I. Most people are reluctant to take risks, gain experience, and carry themselves through uncomfortable situations. You can never have an experience be taken away from you – and you can see where this is headed. Your goals and dreams – are dependent upon your experiences. Along the way, as those experiences add up and your bucket fills up, you’ll give yourself a wonderful opportunity to succeed.
