Take action! You won’t regret it…

17 November 2009 No Comment

A great quote that I’ve decided to share with both business acquaintances and my F.I.T. audience.

“I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.”

Initial Thoughts

I suppose this is true. I am definitely easily distracted, and who wouldn’t be with all of the technology and various tools we have to occupy ourselves with on a daily basis. I can’t bank on simply remembering something, or thinking I can know how to do something or gain an understanding by just reading. This quote is definitely driving home the importance of taking action, because, man, if I don’t write a task down there is no way it is getting accomplished! There’s more to this quote than that, let’s dig a little deeper and see what we can find.

Digging Deeper

We are in the times of instant gratification, where we get any and every little piece of information or correspondence exactly when we want it and even when we don’t want it. While being inundated with so much information, it’s easy to lose focus on how we are approaching our goals. Are you really getting anywhere? You are if you take constant action – because this forces you to learn and understand. Taking action and doing – takes you places, introduces you to people, teaches you lessons, creates memories, allows for personal growth, etc. So much good can come out of your desires if you simply take action on them – not just once, but as much as you can in a practical manner.

What to Walk Away With

If you want to be an expert, improve, reach a goal, inch closer to your dream, etc., you must make efforts and take action to really gain sufficient understanding. The value of taking action becomes exponential and allows you to continuously define and refine your path or your journey through life. Taking action isn’t always going to put you in comfortable situations, but that is where the value of your desire or goal overcomes and conquers. So, take some action, because if you want to understand something – there is simply no better way to do it.
